Dusting off the Cobwebs

I am back! It has been over two years since I have posted a new entry, but if you have visited the blog recently you would have noticed that I have made some visual updates. My goal is to try to create posts on a more regular basis starting today, but my new job has been taking up a lot of my time, as well as my studies for my CPA designation.

For today's post I created a uniform set for a team that recently unveiled their uniforms, the newest team in the ECHL, the Newfoundland Growlers. Newfoundland is my home province so I thought creating a concept set for that team would be a good way to start up the blog again. The logo that the team unveiled is very solid, but when they revealed their jerseys I thought that they may have missed the mark. I am not a fan of the very different sizing of the arm stripes in comparison to the waist stripes.

My concept looks to create a traditional look, which would help to tie into their parent club, the Toronto Maple Leafs. The concept using the same numbers that the Leafs currently use. I have seen around the internet there have been people that were not a fan of the Newfoundland wordmark above the logo but I thought it worked so I brought it over to the white jersey as well. For some reason the wordmark reminds me of a military patch, with it being placed on a namebar rather than being stitched right to the jersey. Maybe that is what the original designer had in mind when designing it.

Without further ado, here are my concepts for the Newfoundland Growlers!

And for those who might be interested I posted a video of my process creating these concepts in this video:

Panther Pride

The Florida Panthers recently unveiled their new logos and jerseys. The biggest unveil was the update of the Panthers previous logo, which many people have liked, myself included. There were rumours before the unveiling that the Panthers were going to also release a third jersey that was a throwback to one of the team's earlier jerseys, but that rumour was false.

For my concept, I imagine what that third jersey could have looked like. The new updated logo is front and center on the jersey, with the design being based off of the pre-Edge navy jerseys that Florida wore. Some adjustments were made to the design so that it better fits in with the current style of the team. Let me know your thoughts in the comments!

Texan Third

Today I have created a third jersey for the Dallas Stars. The design takes inspiration from the first jerseys the Stars wore in Dallas, while also incorporating the design style that the current Stars have.

I have altered the presentation of my concept by adding a new template by Matt McElroy. The template that he created can be found on the website Mockup Arena, which offers many templates for all of the major sports. I only made slight alterations to his template, so that it had the same aesthetic of the current flat jersey template I use. You can get Matt's template here.

Hoo Hoo!

Today I have created a logo for an Owls team. Threw it on a concept to show how the logo would work on a jersey.

EDIT: Added a logo progression, which shows how I went about coming to the finished logo

'Mericans!

Today's concept is another refurbishment of one of my early concepts on Icethetics. This time it is for the New York Americans. My logo skills were a little weak back in 2012, so I created a new logo and updated the uniform. If you haven't seen the concept that I am talking about, this is it here.

EDIT: I added the alternate and away jerseys for the Americans set.

WHA Update

About a year and a half ago, I created a revival of the WHA. I made my own logos for most of the teams that I did for the league. Since I was only beginning to use the pen tool at that time, my logos looked a little bit sloppy. Today I have a concept update for the Toronto Toros. I updated my previous logo and created a new jersey while I was at it. Let me know what you think!

The Leafs Reborn

Last night the Toronto Maple Leafs unveiled their brand new (sort of) logo. The logo takes heavy inspiration from the logo the Leafs had from the 30's to the 60's while they were winning the majority of their cups. Here is a comparison of both of those logos, with the graphic coming from sportslogos.net.

Of course since the Leafs unveiled a new logo, I felt the need to create a set of jerseys that would fit in with Maple Leaf history while also making subtle changes. Since the leaf has 31 points, I decided that the jerseys would have a homage to the jerseys used in 1931. Of course having stripes going all the way up the arms is a bit out of the ordinary for everyday NHL use so I reduced the number of stripes on the arms.

Let me know what you think in the comments and if you have a different idea for what you think the Leafs could look like next year, send your concepts in!

The Centennial Classic pt. II

I have already uploaded my concept for what the Toronto Maple Leafs could wear for the Winter Classic next year. In today's post, I have a concept for the Leafs' opponent in the game. I have the Leafs playing the New York Rangers in the Winter Classic. They would be wearing jerseys that would be close to the white version of the original jersey they wore in the NHL. The pants design is based on the pants used by the Rangers from 1935-37.

The Grenfell Warriors

Continuing with creating logos for popular team names, today I am creating a logo for the Warriors. This just so happens to be the name of my university's sports teams so I decided to create a design more connected with the school rather than being a generic logo. The school  currently doesn't have a hockey program, but I have whipped up a concept of what a jersey with my logo would look like.

King of the Jungle

To try and improve my logo skills, I've decided to create logos for the some of the most popular team names there are. Today's concept is for the King of the Jungle, the Lion.

The Centennial Classic

During the NHL's 100th season the Leafs are trying to make Toronto the venue for the Winter Classic. With this concept I give a taste of what that might look like. The concept mixes a design similar to early Toronto Arenas design, while also using my favourite Maple Leafs logo. The white pants might be a little too much but I decided to go for it.

Bolt of Lightning

Last year the Tampa Bay Lightning unveiled their new alternate jerseys, which many people didn't really like since it looked a lot like the LA Kings home jersey. My concept keeps the logo of their alternate and made a jersey that takes cues from Tampa's jersey history.

Grand Rapids Griffins Contest Entry

For the second year, HockeyJerseyConcepts is helping the Grand Rapids Griffins to create a specialty jersey that they will wear for one game. Anyone can submit a jersey design, with the team selecting the winning jersey by November 30th. I submitted a design last year but sadly did not win, so I have come back and hope for a better result this time around.

Let me know what you think of the jersey design and you can look over the rules and submit your own design over at HJC!

Vegas Gold Penguins

Last year the Penguins started wearing their throwback jerseys from the years they won the Cup. I love the design of that jersey, but some people have a problem with the jersey thinking that the colours are too close to the Bruins. My concept mixes the design of the Cup jerseys with their recent Stadium Series jerseys.

A Washington Classic

Today's concepts brings a new home and away uniform set to the Washington Capitals. The Capitals have left their best logo as just a shoulder patch since they created it. With this concept I put the "Weagle" where it belongs while the uniform takes cues from the Caps original uniforms.

Have any ideas for future blog posts? Leave them in the comments or send in your own concept!

Mile High Alternate

Today I am back with an update for the Colorado Avalanche's new third jerseys. I maintained most of the elements of their new jerseys, but switched up the striping style and decreased the size of the logo. Let me know what you think in the comments!

CWHL Toronto Furies

I am back from a very long hiatus on the blog. With my summer job and getting ready for school, I haven't had much time to make updates here. Today I end the lengthy concept drought by finishing off my CWHL redesign with the Toronto Furies. Yesterday they released a new logo, which I updated for use on my concept.

CWHL Jersey Redesign

I still haven't gotten a solid idea for a logo for the Toronto Furies, but in the mean time I created uniforms for the four teams that I have finished logos for. Let me know what you think in the comments!

Rebranding the CWHL (May 11: Boston Blades added)

Sorry everyone for the long wait between blog posts. I was on vacation with my family in Orlando, getting to experience Disney World, Universal Studios, and Legoland for the first time.

The CWHL(Canadian Women's Hockey League) has been in operation ever since 2007. Even though the league will be soon be celebrating their 10th year in 2017, the teams in the league have still not created logos for their jerseys, instead going the collegiate route by using a wordmark on their jerseys.

I aim to rebrand all the teams that currently play in the CWHL. As of right now, I have three teams finished and will update this post whenever I complete the last two teams.

Coyote Ain't So Ugly

After seeing the Coyotes throwback to their original uniforms, and with the news that they are going to be changing their uniforms next year, I have created an alternate uniform that combines old and new identities.
