Red Wing Stadium Series + New Template(Update: Added the other three teams)

Today I'm showing a concept of the Red Wings and what their uniforms may have looked like if they had played in a Stadium Series game this year. This is not what I would have done for an outdoor game but with the restrictions of the template the NHL used, there is only so much you can do.

I have added the new Stadium Series template to the speedy updated template on my Templates page just in case anyone would want this template specifically.

Blue Lightning

Today we have Jared's third submission shown on this blog.There was some improvement in his last set of jerseys compared to his first sent in, but I believe the concept he recently sent in is his best one yet. Like I did in a previous concept, Jared adds a gradient to the jersey but in a much different way.

Jared, I am glad that you took my advice in using a logo and an actual font for these. I like seeing you progress with every concept you send in. The only minor thing I would note with this concept is that the gradient striping slightly bleeds out of the edge of the jersey, and you also forget to continue the gradient on the backside of the jersey. Other than that, fantastic concept Jared!

The Green Men of Vancouver

This is the last season that the dynamic duo will wear their green suits in Vancouver. In honour of that, I have created an alternate third jersey that is predominantly green and calls back to the teams first jerseys from 1970.

The Reign of Shultz ( February 19th Update)

As you might have guessed by the title of this post we have another guest concept from Ben Shultz. For this concept he has created a jersey for the Ontario Reign, who currently play in the ECHL but are being promoted to the LA Kings affiliate team in the AHL. The Reign recently revealed their new logos but they were a little bit of  a let down since they were just the 90's logo and the current Kings' jersey set.

Ben suggests that the team remains associated with their parent team colors but that they also give themselves jerseys that differentiate them from the Kings. Execution is great for the jersey, with the only thing possibly missing is a back view of the jersey. Other than that, great concept and I can't wait to see what you come up with next Ben!

UPDATE

After I posted Ben's concept for the Ontario Reign he made some revisions of the jersey. His new design is a lot more outside of the box than his previous jersey, with this jersey utilizing a faux gradient look. He also added a back view to the jersey, which I thank him for listening to my critique.

Sonic NHL

Sorry for no posts this weekend. I was out of town and didn't have internet service.

Today's concept post comes from Jared Lammi. Jared has an idea for a "Sonic SatAM Memories" series in the NHL between the Coyotes, Ducks, Kings, Bruins, Canadiens, and the Lightning.

Jared also submitted another concept with a Sonic theme, and that is for the All-Star game, with the two teams names being Team Tails and Team Sonic.

I am glad to see that Jared used actual templates for this round of concepts, but there is still quite a bit for him to improve on:

• No real logos or fonts are used. Sportslogos.net has every sport logo you can think of, and in my tutorial I give a link to download all of the NHL fonts.
• Colours don't match actual team colours.(Although adding an additional colour to the scheme may be acceptable like the Islanders did with their previous black third jerseys)
• There is a lot of pixelation in all of the concepts. If you are going to continue to submit concepts I would suggest once again to go through either my tutorial or Ryan's over at hockeyjerseyconcepts.com

Not really something to improve but just as a note is that if you are doing a series it helps the viewers to see consistent templates used.

Improve on those things and you will be creating concepts with the best of them. Keep on trying Jared!

Lightning in a Bottle

Today's concept will be familiar to anyone who visits icethetics on a regular basis. In my opinion, the Tampa Bay Lightning could be one of the only teams who could rock a jersey that uses gradients. For my concept, I think of the jersey as a storm jersey, slowly turning from clear blue into a dark black.

Shark Attack!

Last year when the San Jose Sharks unveiled their new uniforms, almost everyone was disappointed in what they came up with and their reasons for ditching hem stripes. My design brings back hem stripes and calls back to their early 2000's design.

Ranger Danger

Today we have a concept for the New York Rangers. The wordmark on the chest is based off of the jersey they wore in the 40's for one season and  shoulder yoke is loosely based off of their jerseys they wore in the late 70's.

Sen City

Everyone knows that the Ottawa Senators need to get rid of the Reebok cookie cutter uniforms they have and get a fresh new set. Instead of adopting the Heritage uniforms as full time, I would suggest adapting a set that takes homage from the early Senators while also incorporating some ideas from the new Senators identity. 

The stripes of the jerseys follow the same pattern of the first incarnation of the Sens, while the logos and numbers come from the new Sens. The shoulder logo is an updated S logo that the team used from 1992-2007.

The Kings of Los Angeles

Continuing with doing a concept for every NHL team, the LA Kings are next. I have updated the logo on the jersey used during Gretzky's tenure as a King, and gave the team a more traditional look while adding Los Angeles to the hem stripes like they did in the early 2000's.

Philly & Phlorida

Today we have a concept from me and another new concept artist. The Philadelphia Flyers concept is by Ben Shultz. It takes some details from their previous Winter Classic jersey and creates a great black third jersey.

For my concept, I created an alternate jersey for the Florida Panthers.

Oil Country

I am continuing to go through the NHL, completely updating the looks of some teams and sometimes just adding an alternate jersey. Today I have an alternate jersey for the Edmonton Oilers. The jersey takes its cues from the jerseys the team had when they first entered the WHA.

Jared Lammi

We have our first concept submission to the blog today. That submission comes from a guy by the name of Jared Lammi. He has created concepts for the upcoming Winter Classic and Stadium Series games next season.

Jared, I would suggest finding a template either on my templates page or there are also a ton on hockeyjerseyconcepts.com. Having a solid template can really help nail down some of the concepts you are trying to create. If you haven't looked at the tutorial I created I would also suggest giving that a look as well, but I am liking your creativity with your concepts. Keep it up, Jared!

Star Power

Today I created a concept for an alternate jersey for a team, that team being the Dallas Stars. With the team's recent redesign they went from having some of the worst uniforms to having some of the best. Now all they need is an alternate jersey that fits with their current identity while also capturing the history and legacy of their cup winning team.

Pair of New Jackets

 For todays post, I created a concept for the Columbus Blue Jackets. Their jerseys at the moment aren't terrible but I wanted to give them a more classic look. Let me know what you think!
