Dusting off the Cobwebs

I am back! It has been over two years since I have posted a new entry, but if you have visited the blog recently you would have noticed that I have made some visual updates. My goal is to try to create posts on a more regular basis starting today, but my new job has been taking up a lot of my time, as well as my studies for my CPA designation.

For today's post I created a uniform set for a team that recently unveiled their uniforms, the newest team in the ECHL, the Newfoundland Growlers. Newfoundland is my home province so I thought creating a concept set for that team would be a good way to start up the blog again. The logo that the team unveiled is very solid, but when they revealed their jerseys I thought that they may have missed the mark. I am not a fan of the very different sizing of the arm stripes in comparison to the waist stripes.

My concept looks to create a traditional look, which would help to tie into their parent club, the Toronto Maple Leafs. The concept using the same numbers that the Leafs currently use. I have seen around the internet there have been people that were not a fan of the Newfoundland wordmark above the logo but I thought it worked so I brought it over to the white jersey as well. For some reason the wordmark reminds me of a military patch, with it being placed on a namebar rather than being stitched right to the jersey. Maybe that is what the original designer had in mind when designing it.

Without further ado, here are my concepts for the Newfoundland Growlers!

And for those who might be interested I posted a video of my process creating these concepts in this video:

Panther Pride

The Florida Panthers recently unveiled their new logos and jerseys. The biggest unveil was the update of the Panthers previous logo, which many people have liked, myself included. There were rumours before the unveiling that the Panthers were going to also release a third jersey that was a throwback to one of the team's earlier jerseys, but that rumour was false.

For my concept, I imagine what that third jersey could have looked like. The new updated logo is front and center on the jersey, with the design being based off of the pre-Edge navy jerseys that Florida wore. Some adjustments were made to the design so that it better fits in with the current style of the team. Let me know your thoughts in the comments!

Texan Third

Today I have created a third jersey for the Dallas Stars. The design takes inspiration from the first jerseys the Stars wore in Dallas, while also incorporating the design style that the current Stars have.

I have altered the presentation of my concept by adding a new template by Matt McElroy. The template that he created can be found on the website Mockup Arena, which offers many templates for all of the major sports. I only made slight alterations to his template, so that it had the same aesthetic of the current flat jersey template I use. You can get Matt's template here.

Hoo Hoo!

Today I have created a logo for an Owls team. Threw it on a concept to show how the logo would work on a jersey.

EDIT: Added a logo progression, which shows how I went about coming to the finished logo

'Mericans!

Today's concept is another refurbishment of one of my early concepts on Icethetics. This time it is for the New York Americans. My logo skills were a little weak back in 2012, so I created a new logo and updated the uniform. If you haven't seen the concept that I am talking about, this is it here.

EDIT: I added the alternate and away jerseys for the Americans set.

WHA Update

About a year and a half ago, I created a revival of the WHA. I made my own logos for most of the teams that I did for the league. Since I was only beginning to use the pen tool at that time, my logos looked a little bit sloppy. Today I have a concept update for the Toronto Toros. I updated my previous logo and created a new jersey while I was at it. Let me know what you think!

The Leafs Reborn

Last night the Toronto Maple Leafs unveiled their brand new (sort of) logo. The logo takes heavy inspiration from the logo the Leafs had from the 30's to the 60's while they were winning the majority of their cups. Here is a comparison of both of those logos, with the graphic coming from sportslogos.net.

Of course since the Leafs unveiled a new logo, I felt the need to create a set of jerseys that would fit in with Maple Leaf history while also making subtle changes. Since the leaf has 31 points, I decided that the jerseys would have a homage to the jerseys used in 1931. Of course having stripes going all the way up the arms is a bit out of the ordinary for everyday NHL use so I reduced the number of stripes on the arms.

Let me know what you think in the comments and if you have a different idea for what you think the Leafs could look like next year, send your concepts in!
